Ashish Gupta, the man of many things.

Author. Coach. Consultant. Growth Partner. Teacher. Mentor.

Author Coach Consultant Growth Partner Teacher Mentor

Ashish Gupta has spent fifteen years inside Indian higher education, across admissions, outreach, and institutional growth, at six institutions, before turning that experience into books, training, and a daily teaching practice. He writes, speaks, and works directly with institutions, carrying the same thread through every role: understand the people first, then build what moves them forward.

What follows is his story, told in chapters, from Kaimganj to Bengaluru.

RV University O.P. Jindal Global University IFIM Institutions Jagran Lakecity University IES Career Launcher Rotary International Erasmus University Rotterdam

1990

Early life in Kaimganj

Ashish was born in 1990 in Kaimganj, a small town in Uttar Pradesh. He studied in Hindi medium through class 12, and was a class topper in class 10, a result that led him to choose Science over Commerce for his senior years, even though his family, his brothers and cousins included, came from a Commerce background.

Choosing Science turned out to be one of the early mistakes he made. Physics, Chemistry, and Maths were not where his strengths lay, and his scores in those subjects did not reflect his ability. At the same time, he was doing well in Hindi and English. His English teacher, Mr. Vinay Ganga, noticed the gap and asked him directly why he was not doing as well in his other subjects when he was clearly good with languages. That question became the first hint that his path might lie in language, not science.

2004 to 2009

Finding a path through English

English was, and remains, a subject that can change the direction of a life in India, and Ashish began to see it as his way forward. 2004 was also the peak of the call centre boom, with jobs opening up across the country. After finishing class 12, he moved from his hometown to Delhi and joined an institute called Hi Mine for a three month English speaking course, then joined a call centre in Delhi and worked there for about a year.

The work was not fulfilling, so he moved back to Kanpur to complete his graduation at Kanpur University. During this time, he started his own institute, Right Learning Institute, and taught English to students through the years of his degree, working with about 600 students in total. It was his brother who eventually suggested he consider an MBA instead of continuing to teach.

2009 to 2014

The MBA and the first real break

In 2009, Ashish moved from Kanpur to Gurgaon for a year of MBA entrance coaching. He appeared for multiple entrance exams, did well in a few, and secured admission to IMS, part of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) in Indore, completing his MBA between 2010 and 2012.

His first job came in 2011, with Educomp Solutions, a company central to the Smartclass business in Indian schools. He worked there for three years, starting as an executive and rising to manager by the time he left in 2014.

2014 to 2018

Learning education marketing, the hard way

From Educomp, Ashish moved to Pearl Academy, a design education institution, and spent close to two years working closely with schools across Madhya Pradesh on promotion and outreach. This was where he began to understand education marketing as a discipline in its own right.

He then joined Career Launcher as a Regional Manager, starting with the state of Madhya Pradesh before taking on MP and Chhattisgarh, and later Gujarat and Maharashtra, covering Central and West India. At the peak of this role, he was handling about 28 franchisees, including two company owned centres and 26 others. Alongside the operational learning, he developed his public speaking through countless sessions and worked as a quiz master across the region, building a solid, ground level understanding of how education marketing actually works in Central and West India.

2018 to 2020

Entering higher education, at Jagran Lakecity University

In 2018, Ashish moved into university admissions for the first time, joining Jagran Lakecity University in Central India, an institution with ambitions to become a genuinely international university. He grew admissions from about 600 to about 1,200 in a single year, and expanded the university's reach into new target territories in that same period. It was the beginning of his career inside higher education admissions and outreach.

2020 to 2022

OP Jindal Global University and the shift to digital

Ashish then joined OP Jindal Global University as Director of Admissions, a role he held for about two and a half years. The Covid years fell within this period, and with travel restricted, he turned to digital outreach, running a large number of webinars to keep reach alive when in person travel was not possible.

He had also started a YouTube channel in 2017, and within six to seven months it crossed 50,000 subscribers, an early signal of how effective his digital presence could be.

2022 to 2023

Moving south, to IFIM and Bengaluru

By this point Ashish had built deep exposure to North, West, and Central India, and wanted to understand the Southern market as well. In October 2022, he moved to Bengaluru to join IFIM institutions as Director of Admissions and Outreach, leading UG and PG programs. He nearly doubled admission numbers within a year.

2023 to 2025

RV University and national, international reach

In 2023, Ashish joined RV University as Director of Admissions and Outreach, a role he held for two years. He led national and international outreach and admissions, expanding the university's footprint across 10 international territories, while also driving branding work in key markets across North, South, and East India. By the end of this period, he had genuine, first hand exposure to every major Indian region as well as international markets.

2025 to present

Indian Educational Services and building Admission

In 2025, Ashish moved from RV University to Indian Educational Services (IES) to build a new product, Admission, a B2B platform connecting education consultants with universities across India. Working with the tech team, he helped take Admission to India's largest platform of its kind for consultant to university connections, onboarding over 1,200 consultants within the first year, alongside outreach work across several territories.

2023 to present

Rotary Club of Bangalore

Alongside his professional work, Ashish joined the Rotary Club of Bangalore in 2023 and has been active in community service since. He became President of the Rotary E Club of Bangalore, a position he currently holds for the term 2026 to 2027.

2020 to present

Becoming an author

Ashish began writing in 2020, starting with his first book, 13 Marketing Lessons. Since then he has written over 20 books across marketing, personal development, career guidance, and education marketing, including the AGES career guidance series, the Admissions and Outreach Playbook for Indian Universities, Motivate the Motivator, a leadership guide for school leaders, and Letters to Teenagers, among others.

Taken together, his career spans every major region of India, North, South, East, Central, and West, as well as international markets including Nepal, Bhutan, and the Middle East, the primary target geographies for Indian universities looking abroad.
